Danny Kaye<\/a>\u00a0(born\u00a0David Daniel Kaminski; January 18, 1913\u00a0\u2013 March 3, 1987) was an American actor, singer, dancer, and comedian. His performances featured\u00a0physical comedy, idiosyncratic\u00a0pantomimes, and rapid-fire nonsense songs.\u00a0 Kaye starred in 17 movies, notably\u00a0The Kid from Brooklyn\u00a0(1946),\u00a0The Secret Life of Walter Mitty\u00a0(1947),\u00a0The Inspector General\u00a0(1949),\u00a0Hans Christian Andersen\u00a0(1952),\u00a0White Christmas\u00a0(19
\n<\/a>54), and\u00a0The Court Jester\u00a0(1956). His films were popular, especially his bravura performances of patter songs and favorites such as “Inchworm” and “The Ugly Duckling”. He was the first ambassador-at-large of\u00a0UNICEF\u00a0in 1954 and received the\u00a0French Legion of Honor\u00a0in 1986 for his years of work with the organization.<\/p>\n

David Daniel Kaminsky\u00a0was born to\u00a0Ukrainian\u00a0Jewish\u00a0immigrants in\u00a0Brooklyn. Jacob and Clara Nemerovsky Kaminsky and their two s\"danny<\/a>ons, Larry and Mac, leftYekaterinoslav\u00a0two years before his birth; he was the only son born in the United States. \u00a0He spent his early youth attending Public School 149 in\u00a0East NewYork, Brooklyn\u2014which eventually was renamed to honor him\u2014where he began entertaining his classmates with songs and jokes,\u00a0before moving to\u00a0Thomas Jefferson High School, though he never graduated.\u00a0 \u00a0His mother died when he was in his early teens.
